A Life In Music

Phil Miller Tribute Concerts: 6th Jan 2019 – Vortex, London

This series of videos documents the two concerts that took place on January 6th, 2019 at the Vortex in Dalston, London, to honour the memory and musical legacy of Phil Miller, just days shy of what would have been his 70th birthday. At the instigation of Phil’s wife Herm and with support from some of Phil’s closest musical associates (Alex Maguire and his partner Lynette Densham, Fred Baker and Doug Boyle being most involved), a selection of Phil’s music from throughout his career was performed by a stellar ensemble of musicians to a capacity audience. Due to high demand, there were two sold out concerts, with some repeated material and pieces exclusive to each. A camera crew filmed the proceedings and the sound was captured by Phil’s old friend Benj Lefevre, who began his illustrious career alongside Phil’s early bands Delivery and Matching Mole and has gone on to work with many of the biggest names in the music industry. Kudos to him for making the music sound so good on the night, and even better now following painstaking post-production work. Benj and Lynette are also to be commended for ensuring that the various participating musicians were on stage on time when required – no small feat in a small, very crowded venue. I was asked to keep the crowd entertained with some background on the music performed while musicians came and went. Much to my relief, it was decided to leave those bits out of these videos and concentrate on the actual performances, so I will instead provide a short accompanying text for each video.
