PHIL MILLER 1949 – 2017

Today Monday 18th October is the 4th anniversary of Phil’s death. He died in my arms here in Colvestone Crescent.
It was the saddest day of my life. I would like to share this painting of him which I finished recently and ask you to listen to this short but very poignant piece of his music- almost a Lament – played by him on guitar and midi guitar: Birds Eye View from his album Digging In.

  1. Have only just discovered Phils playing though hearing the first National Health album on You Tube, it has many wonderful beautiful moments and intend to check out other things he has done. I am familiar with lots of Jazz and rock music since the sixties Bruford, Jack Bruce, Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Clyne, Nucleus, Magma, Turning Point, Flora Purim, Jeff Beck, etc. As I’m writing this I am now listening to Gilgamesh and loving it, still discovering music i missed in the past and sad that this 70 year old will never see him live.

  2. A beautiful portrait dearest Herm. You’re in my thoughts in this sad time of remembrance of your wonderful Phil. He was blessed to have you by his side. Much love from across the pond, your friend, Rhonda

  3. Beautiful painting, he looks so thoughtful. I only overlapped with Phil for a short while, via High Hopper, but his guitar work was mesmerising and he was a gent. Thank you for sharing, Herm. Just beautiful.

  4. Stunning portrait of Phil, Herm…just as I remember him from the few times that I met him 30 plus yrs ago. Thinking of you at this sad time.

  5. Herm, that painting is WONDERFUL. Really captures his nobility and grace. I only met him once, but that was the strong impression he left on me.
