In Cahoots – Brussels, Travers – 31 May 1986
This one should perhaps be recommended to completists, as it’s neither of astounding sound quality or very original in content, but as we intend to ultimately make this site an archive of every recording by Phil as a band leader, and needless to say, any In Cahoots performance is worth a listen and has its moments of magic, here it is. A companion of sorts to the already posted Liège concert from the evening before, but with a couple of truncated tracks. Not much seems to be missing from the “Truly Yours” suite, but “Green & Purple” doesn’t even get to the end of the freeform intro before it’s mercilessly cut short. Still it’s a worthy document from this well-loved period in the band’s existence.![]()
Note: Of course the picture of Elton and Hugh is not from this gig, but from the following summer, at the Bracknell Jazz Festival!
Phil Miller – guitar
Elton Dean – alto sax, saxello
Peter Lemer – keyboards
Hugh Hopper – bass
Pip Pyle – drums

The picture looks like Richard Sinclair? My eyes aren’t what they used to be!!
