In Cahoots – Stockton-on-Tees, Dovecot Arts Centre – 7 June 1991 – (1st set)
An incomplete capture of In Cahoots’ first UK gig after returning from their European tour, this has just three tracks but is in fact the entire first set. This tour is pretty well documented but this is a fine ambient recording, and an intense performance, with Elton particularly on fire. Although the band had no keyboard player during this period, Phil does a creditable imitation of a pianist’s comping in “Bass Motives”, his showcase for Fred’s virtuoso bass playing. And what a pleasure it is to hear Pip’s inimitable, tentacular drumming on “No Holds Barred”. A recommended listen – until we locate the missing second set!
