Matching Mole – London July 1972

Matching Mole London, King’s Cross Cinema – 7 July 1972

Previously unheard live recordings of Matching Mole aren’t exactly frequent these days. Well, this one was unknown to us, but not to everyone as it had been sold as a bootleg CD in Japan. When I was first told about it, I assumed it was just mislabelled and was actually the King’s Cross Cinema gig from a few weeks before. Turns out it wasn’t, and this is actually an hour’s worth of rare live Matching Mole of the highest interest. It’s pretty good sounding for an audience recording of this era, the performance has quite a few interesting twists and turns that differ from other available live tapes, and the band is in really fine form. So we took it and indexed it properly, whereas the bootleg CD had evidently been produced by someone with very superficial knowledge of Matching Mole’s repertoire, and here it is for your listening pleasure – simply one of the best available documents of the band, in our humble opinion. Now judge for yourselves!
