Miller-Baker – Liège (Belgium), Le Lion S’Envoile – 8 November 1995
If you liked our recent upload of the gig Phil and Fred played two days later in Delft, this is even better – very well recorded (apart from the audience being inaudible) and even longer at over two hours, this is evidence that the second Miller-Baker album could, and should have been finished much earlier. In the event it only came out five years after Phil’s passing, and as this performance demonstrates, it has as much great music as “Double Up” did, the main difference being that it contained mostly new music whereas the first album drew from Phil’s entire career going back to Matching Mole and Hatfield. Like Delft, this has Phil’s Untitled Ballad and Fred’s “Waltz For Morgan”, both otherwise unrecorded by the duo. There is also a unique version of In Cahoots’ “Half Life” and the only live performance of “Latino Caribbeano”, another track from “Double Up 2”.
A truly fantastic document, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, if you like this, do get “Double Up 2” – a labour of love from Phil and Fred, and Benj and Herm who brought it to fruition.
Phil Miller – guitar & MIDI guitar
Fred Baker – guitar & bass
