A Life In Music: God Song

Phil’s National Health bandmate John Greaves offers a very personal take on the Matching Mole classic, originally on 1972’s Little Red Record. John of course is a friend and collaborator to Robert Wyatt who wrote the lyrics to Phil’s music. At the time of the concert John was just about to release his new album Life Size (on the revived, now Italian-based Manticore label) which includes a version of the song, which has since become a staple in John’s concerts, most notably his recent birthday series at La Gare in Paris. This rendition is from the second concert, for which John added a touching postscript, an excerpt from his own song The Price We Pay, from 1984’s Parrot Pashions.
