The Relatives Cornwall 2013

THE RELATIVES with PHIL MILLER
The Brewery, St Austell, Cornwall – 1st November 2013

After In Cahoots quietly ceased operations, most of Phil’s musical activity in his final years involved his old friend Jack Monck (who formed Delivery with him, Steve Miller and Pip Pyle back in 1966) and his band The Relatives, which morphed into Jack Monck & Friends following the departure of Willem Jan Droog. In his opening words, Marc Hadley gives a potted history of the band, and the longer version can be found in the interviews with Marc and Jack on this site. Phil sat in with the band on a gig in Rotterdam in July 2010 (this produced “BB Sings”, revisited here, a bonus track on the live album “In De Tuin”), and subsequently Phil became a full member for the 2013 studio album “Virtually”, one of whose highlights was Marc’s “On My Mind” with guest vocals by Richard Sinclair (it is here sung by its composer). Of special interest in this concert, a fine audience recording by John Pegg, is the version of the late-period In Cahoots classic “Delta Borderline”.
