The Bluebell Wood Jumper

This week I thought I would show you the sleeveless Vneck jumper I knitted for Phil picturing a bluebell wood we visited very early on in the 1980s. Phil and I used to spend a lot of our time together in the country. He was so familiar with the countryside of Herfordshire having been born there in 1949. We used to walk for miles, often along the River Rodin and the Stour and often cross country on our bicycles. I suppose his brother Steve him showed him a lot when Phil was very young. They both had bikes and he took Phil out with him all over the county on their bikes. His mother Mavis used to tell me they were out all day long. Phil had a tremendous memory when it came to knowing exactly where he was in woods and by rivers.

The photo of this jumper is not very good. It makes the green of the trees and the grass look black and you can’t see that it’s a V neck. I could only find one photo of Phil wearing it. It was when In Cahoots was first formed and Phil needed some publicity photos of the band. I didn’t have a camera in these early days so I asked my friend Jane to take some. It was her idea that the band should all be wearing suits. Can’t remenber why she thought it would be a good idea. Only Pip actually owned a suit  and they could only muster 2 ties between them. She took the pics in Pete Lemer’s garden Somebody wrote in once when I used this photo and asked if it was taken at a wedding! But can you see? Phil is wearing this little bluebell wood jumper! At least you can see it’s a Vneck. I think it must be a little after 1982 because that was when In Cahoots was first formed, although it was not called that at first – it was called the Phil Miller Quartet before Pete Lemer joined the band on keyboards.
