What was Phil wearing on stage at the Barcelona show in 1979?

I hope you enjoyed Aymeric’s latest post of National Health playing in Barcelona, Spain in 1979. Did you happen to notice what Phil Miller -the guitarist – was wearing? No? Then let me tell you:
It was a sleeveless jumper that I had knitted for him.
It depicts Phil Miller, wearing a maroon coloured jumper and black trousers, walking across a zebra crossing complete with a yellow beacon, a black cat and a white cat and 2 brown dogs, in front of the Kingsmead estate in Hackney, East London where Phil had been given a flat to rent.
Hackney Council, along with all greater London Councils had, in the late seventies, offered all squatters in London a council flat of their own, on condition they vacated Council property. The flats they were offered were in the least desirable areas. The Kingsmead Estate is situated next to Hackney Marshes – which you can just glimpse on the right hand side of the jumper, just below the arm pit. It was also a stone’s throw from my flat in Mabley street.
This was my first attempt at knitting. I didn’t have a pattern but started at the bottom of the front of the jumper and knitted my way up, row by row. I gave it to Phil as a present, to mark this great event!
Phil and I used to play golf on the marshes. I had bought an old golf bag complete with clubs and a large bag of golf balls from Oxfam and Phil and I would take these to the marshes, taking turns hitting our golf balls – then we would set off in search of them. We found my balls easily enough, but Phil’s balls we never found because he was able to hit his much further than mine and  had travelled so far away they were permanately lost. I would hit my ball again and Phil would use another ball which also we never found. We enjoyed this game on maany occasions until we ran out of balls.
